Voluptuous Landforms
Voluptuous Landforms are ceramic sculptures with glaze, pigment, glass, and resin.
Ceramics are simultaneously earthen and bodily. Clay is harvested from the ground and formed into imaginative objects, always pushing the form towards a flowing of earth, of water, of undulating ground. The ground moves, you know. I once worked on a famous cemetery design and we constructed ways of keeping the buried coffins in place, so that in 500 years the coffins would remain in a findable spot on the cemetery index. There's a ritual and an honoring that takes place with handbuilding clay sculptures. It is a meditation on ground and an honoring of land. It recalls the body. A body I know intimately. This body is not mine, but one that I love.
